A pretty cool collaboration between Ralph Lauren and smart clothing maker OMsignal aims to take wearable devices beyond fitness trackers and smart watches. This is great because technology and fashion don’t often come together in elegant ways.
According to a profile in the New York Times, ball boys at the U.S. Open will be trying out a sexy nylon connected T-shirt that will broadcast their heart rate, breathing and stress levels to a dashboard, phone app or computer screen. The slick, form-fitting black athletic shirt with a conductive silver-coated thread woven discreetly into the fiber will mark Ralph Lauren’s entry into the rapidly advancing world of wearable technology. This will actually make that shirt the first item of tech apparel to be introduced by a mainstream fashion label.
Ralph Lauren is also expected to introduce, alongside the athletic shirts, tech-enhanced classic dress shirts at Ralph Lauren stores in the first half of next year.
