What do menstrual cramps, tea and drones have in common?
Answer: the Chinese online retail giant Alibaba.
Take that, Amazon. Alibaba, just took your drone PR stunt to the next level. If menstrual cramps have you crawling under the covers, you can now order a special ginger tea (with brown sugar) on Alibaba’s Tabao and get it delivered by drones. The tea does wonders to treat the pain and the drone will deliver your package within one hour.
Alibaba’s major online marketplace Taobao has begun a three-day drone delivery trial for one-hour deliveries to customers who live near distribution centers in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. The company is partnering with Shanghai YTO Express in order to run this test program from February 4th to February 6th. 450 of its lucky customers will get the chance to have their goods delivered by remote-controlled quadcopters. The item that will be delivered during test run is ginger tea which is used to treat menstrual cramps and these packages are said to weigh less than 340 grams.
According to Alibaba, this one-off campaign is an effort to bring unique and innovative shopping experiences to consumers on its e-commerce ecosystem. Yes, this is quite unique.
